Family Photography - The Spicers

Family Photography - The Spicers

It’s been a funny year because… well… *gestures at everything*. I would never have known at the start of the year that I’d be having a forced break from being able to work. In a lot of ways, it was lovely to be able to slow down and take some time with my family. I homeschooled. I foraged wild garlic and made pesto. I put my cameras away for months.

But, it wasn’t easy. I’ve missed working so much. Not just getting to be creative but being around people and having a sense of purpose. I finally got to break the seal and do my first professional shoot since March and there was no better way to do this than a family shoot with a couple I’ve been lucky enough to work with since 2014. First on their engagement shoot, their wedding, a family shoot when they had their first baby and now with their newest arrival. Here’s a little trip down memory lane…

If you've been following my blog recently you'll know that I've come to absolutely love shooting family photography. It's been so exciting building up this side of my business. There is something just so special about capturing a slice of life and childhood memories in the making. This was the shoot that really made me feel like I was finally finding my voice with it and the way that I want to work.

The everyday is everything. More than you realise at the time. When I shoot families I don't want it to be fake and forced... I want to capture something that matters. Something that will matter twenty years from now, or even further down the line. I want to visit you and capture the littlest, biggest things. The cups of tea. The background music. The little things you do a thousand times a year that are so quietly important.
